Cross-Cultural and Gender Center
They’re a Talented Bunch
The only way to create great things every day is with great people who truly enjoy their job, so we make sure to only hire the best.
What are your responsibilities? I am the Student Coordinator for American Indian Programs and Services. I work hard with the Coordinator to provide educational programs and events for our campus and community.
What are your interests/hobbies? I enjoy listening or reading stories; this can be in the form of books, comics or from people. I like doing all types of art, such as, painting, beading, embroidery, sculpture, and performance art, such as, cultural dancing.
Why do you do this work? I do this work because student involvement is something I am really passionate about. Being shy, I missed out on a lot of opportunities, but it’s never too late. During my time at the community college, I worked hard in coming out of my shell by encouraging youth to pursue higher education. From there I wanted to make the campus environment a lot more engaging so I started an Art Club on campus and later was offered a position in Student Activities department. I received all of this from being involved! I heard about the Cross Cultural and Gender Center while attending Dog Days and later signed up for the 2019 Summer Retreat. I really enjoyed and learned a lot from attending. While there I was still timid, but the staff was welcoming and I began talking to the Coordinator and Student Coordinator of the American Indian Programs and Services. There I learned about how I am enjoying the retreat and would love to do cultural events like this on the Fresno State campus as I've worked before in Student Activities, Outreach and event planning. They told me they were hiring and I applied. I feel if I didn’t get out of my shell, I would’ve never had this opportunity.
