Cross-Cultural and Gender Center

LGBTQ+ Prom

Please read: LGBTQ+ Prom 2020 has been postponed until further notice due to the COVID 19 pandemic. We plan on resuming the event whenever it is safe to do so. We are very grateful for your interest and support! Please continue to follow the Cross Cultural and Gender Center on social media for more updates!

Every year, LGBTQ+ Programs and Services works to put together a prom that will give students and community members the chance to attend a dance that is free of judgment. Unlike most high school students, LGBTQ+ students are likely to be deterred from attending prom and often do not feel comfortable attending prom with whom they would like to. This event is meant to give students the opportunity to get that high school prom night back or create new memories!

Our LGBTQ+ Programs and Services at Fresno State is committed to increasing visibility and awareness of the broad spectrum of identities represented by LGBTQ+. Through activism, education, and community building, we encourage others to recognize the oppression that LGBTQ+ individuals face because of heterosexism and homophobia. We seek to raise awareness of social misconceptions of sexuality/gender and create a safe space that allows self-exploration for all LGBTQ+ individuals.

This event is open to all students, staff, faculty, and community members!

If you have any questions, or would like to arrange any special accommodations please email ccgclgbtq@mail.fresnostate.edu or call (559) 278-4435.

Ticket information will be available as the event details are announced. Stay tuned!

What should I wear to LGBTQ+ Prom?

Dress up or down- whatever represents your most authentic self. Many prom attendees over the years have chosen a more formal outfit, while others will dress casually. We have individuals who also dress according to the annual theme as well! All attire is welcome.

Can community members attend?

All members of the on and off campus community are welcome to purchase tickets and attend LGBTQ+ Prom!

What if I can't purchase a ticket online? Can I purchase a ticket in person?

We can accommodate you! Please email ccgclgbtq@mail.fresnostate.edu and we can set up an alternative payment method for you!

I'm nervous- What should I expect when I attend Prom this year?

LGBTQ+ Prom is a very unique, wonderful experience. There will be music, food, dancing, and a photographer like a traditional prom, but there will also be drag queens and a celebration of LGBTQ+ culture and identity. This event was created with YOU in mind!

What do I bring to the event?

Bring yourself (maybe some friends as well), a great attitude, proof of purchasing a ticket (a receipt either on your phone or printed),

An additional optional idea is to bring cash, multiple small bills. Although we do compensate our drag performers, it is traditional for drag performers to collect tips during their performance. However, this is not required at all!
