Services for Students with Disabilities

Applying for Services

Students with known or potential disabilities who are new to SSD will need to complete the following steps in order to meet with an Access Specialist:

  • Complete the online student application. You will be prompted to sign in with your Fresno State username and password.
  • Fill out the application and provide any available documentation that indicates a history of a disability and/or accommodation usage.

You may submit documentation with your application, or bring documentation to your intake meeting. Please review the following recommendations regarding documentation:

  • Psychoeducational evaluations, IEPs, 504 Plans, past accommodations/services from another college, and/or letters from doctors/medical providers are all examples of useful means of documentation to provide for review.
  • Documentation is most beneficial when it provides specific insight into how a disability impacts various academic experiences (testing, reading, etc.).
  • When the recommendations are for support to enhance success or are considered outside the scope of what is necessary for equal access, the student will be referred to other resources and/or given options that may be able to address the specific need.
  • Keep in mind that although a medical provider may make a recommendation for accommodation, the final decision for reasonable accommodation is made by the Access Specialist after thorough engagement in the interactive process.
  • For your convenience, SSD has a Disability Verification Form you can provide to your medical provider. Documentation does not need to be provided on this form.

Please note that you should not delay meeting with SSD if you are concerned about not having the right documentation. You will consult individually with your assigned Acess Specialist during your intake meeting to discuss your application and any third party documentation needs. Insufficient documentation will not delay the initial meeting but may cause delay the consideration and possible approval of certain accommodations.

To request housing accommodations, begin the process by applying with Fresno State Student Housing.

Complete the Services for Students with Disabilities application. You will be prompted to sign in with your Fresno State username and password.

If your housing accommodation request is not submitted prior to room assignments or if you do not have a completed application, they may not be able to accommodate.
