Welcome Black

Welcome Black kicks off the academic year by bringing Black students, staff, faculty and community organizations together in a space of celebration and connection. The event highlights resources, introduces campus leaders, and builds community through music, food, and engaging conversation. It’s designed to affirm students and set the tone for a successful school year.

Martin Luther King Jr. Commemoration

Held every January, this event honors the enduring legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. through speakers, performances, and opportunities for dialogue. It serves as both a commemoration and a call to action, inviting the campus community to reflect on Dr. King’s teachings and their relevance today.

Black History Month

Black History Month is an annual, campus-wide celebration recognizing the history, resilience, and cultural contributions of Black people in the United States and across the diaspora. Throughout February, the center hosts a series of educational and cultural events—including panels, performances, lectures, and art showcases—designed to uplift Black voices, inspire reflection, and foster pride.

Black History Month Kick-Off

This high-energy event launches Black History Month programming with intention and excitement. Students, staff, faculty and community gather for cultural performances, speakers, and community-building as we begin a month dedicated to honoring Black legacy and vision.

Harvest of Unity (Kwanzaa Celebration)

Hosted each December, this celebration brings the community together to reflect on the seven principles of Kwanzaa. Through a shared meal, storytelling, music, and cultural activities, we honor our heritage, build connection, and affirm the values that unite us.

African American Recognition Ceremony (Black Grad)

This culturally affirming graduation ceremony honors the academic achievements and personal journeys of Fresno State students. Graduates are recognized individually in front of their loved ones and peers. The event features inspiring speakers, cultural performances, and ceremonial stoles representing heritage and accomplishment.
