Academic Probation and Disqualification

An undergraduate student must maintain a 2.00 grade point average (GPA) in both campus (all coursework taken at Fresno State) and cumulative (total) GPA (all coursework attempted at allcolleges) to remain in Good Standing. If a student’s campus or cumulative GPA falls below a 2.00, they will be placed on academic probation or academic disqualification.

Undergraduate students who have been academically disqualified are encouraged to contact the University Advising Center in the Joyal Administration Building, room 224, or call (559) 278-1787 for information on the Steps for Readmission.

Graduate students should contact the Division of Research and Graduate Studies in the Thomas Administration Building, room 130, or call (559) 278-2448 regarding academic probation or disqualification.

Academic Standing Chart

An undergraduate student whose campus (all coursework taken at Fresno State) or cumulative GPA is below a 2.00 will be placed on Probation or Probation: Disqualification Range, or until they are disqualified under the provisions of the disqualification regulations.

An undergraduate student who has been academically disqualified from the university, reapplied, and been accepted as a readmitted student a Fresno State will be placed on Readmitted on Probation. Students are requested to earn a minimum 2.50 term GPA to continue into the subsequent semester. The student will remain on Readmitted on Probation until their campus and total GPA is no longer in disqualification and is on Probation or Good Standing.

First-time freshman students admitted for Fall 2021 and Fall 2022 cohort will meet with Academic Success Coaching three times during the term. The Academic Success Coaching staff will clear the Academic Success Coaching Probation Hold once requirements are met. All continuing students will be meeting with their Major Advising Center during the term to discuss ways to become successful for the term. The Academic Counselor from the Major Advising Center will clear the Academic Probation hold.

An undergraduate student will be placed on academic disqualification if either campus or total
(cumulative) GPA fall below the level based on units earned at the end of the Spring term.

Freshman (29 units or less) will be academically disqualified if their total or campus GPA is below a 1.50
Sophomore (30-59 units) will be academically disqualified if their total or campus GPA is below a 1.70
Junior (60-89 units) will be academically disqualified if their total or campus GPA is below a 1.85
Senior (90 units or higher) will be academically disqualified if their total or campus GPA is below a 1.95
Post Baccalaureate (0+ units) will be academically disqualified if their total or campus GPA is below a 1.95.
