TRIO Student Support Services - Disabilities

Frequently Asked Questions

  •  What is TRIO?
    • TRIO consists of eight federally funded programs overseen by the U.S. Department of Education derived by the Education Opportunities Act of 1964. The three early programs that started TRIO were Upward Bound, Educational Talent Search, and Student Support Services. These programs are designed to support students from disadvantaged backgrounds. Our specific program falls under the Student Support Services option and is specifically funded to serve students with disabilities.
  • What does the TRIO SSS-D program do?
    • We are a support program that provides 1-on-1 and group support along with other various services ranging from academic advising, counseling, career exploration, financial literacy education, cultural awareness, Mentoring and Peer Support, and more. TRIO SSS-D also assists students’ transition to the next level of higher education or professional development. Please refer to our Services page to read more about what we offer students.
  • How will I know if I am accepted into TRIO?
    • After your intake interview, you will be informed of your TRIO application status as soon as possible via email. Students who are accepted will receive an email with a Letter of Acceptance along with the next steps in being admitted into the program such as how to sign up for an orientation and schedule an appointment with their TRIO SSS-D Advisor.
  • What if I'm not accepted into the program?
    • We are funded to work with 110 students each year. If our program is full, you will put on our waitlist and will be extended an invitation to our Mentoring and Peer Support program to support your academic needs. If a spot becomes available to join TRIO SSS-D, you will be contacted via email by the Program Assistant where the student will have the opportunity to continue with the application process.
  • Do I need to renew my application every year?
    • You do not need to renew your application once you are accepted into TRIO.
  • I was part of TRIO SSS-D, but I took a Stop Out semester and am planning on reattending Fresno State the upcoming semester. What is the next step?
    • You do not need to submit another TRIO application. Please reach out to our Program Assistant or contact us to schedule an appointment with your TRIO SSS-D Advisor to begin your participant requirements.
  • I was part of TRIO SSS-D, but I took a year break and had to reapply to Fresno State. What is the next step?

  • How do I know if I was awarded the Supplemental Grant Aid (SGA)?
    • You will receive an email after the SGA deadline regarding the status of your application. Please note this aid is disbursed through the financial aid office.
