TRIO Student Support Services - Disabilities
Frequently Asked Questions
- What is TRIO?
- TRIO consists of federally funded programs, overseen by the U.S. Department of Education, derived by the Education Opportunities Act of 1964. The three early programs that started TRIO were Upward Bound, Educational Talent Search, and Student Support Services. There are over 2,800 programs nationally. These programs are designed to support students from disadvantaged backgrounds. Our specific program falls under the Student Support Services option and is specifically funded to serve students with disabilities.
- What does the TRIO SSS-D program do?
- Our objective is to help students remain in school, stay in good academic standing, and graduate! We are an academic support program that provides 1-on-1 and group support along with other various services ranging from academic advising, counseling, career exploration, financial literacy education, cultural awareness, Mentoring and Peer Support, and more. Please refer to our Services page to read more about what we offer students.
- How will I know if I am accepted into TRIO?
- After your intake interview, you will be informed of your TRIO application status via email. Students who are accepted will receive an email with a Letter of Acceptance along with the next steps in being admitted into the program such as how to sign up for an orientation and schedule an appointment with their TRIO SSS-D Advisor.
- What if I'm not accepted into the program?
- We are funded to serve 110 students each year. If our program is full, you will be put on our waitlist and will be extended an invitation to our Mentoring and Peer Support program to support your academic needs. If a spot becomes available to join TRIO SSS-D, you will be contacted via email by the Program Assistant with the opportunity to continue the application process.
