Welcome back to Fresno State!

We’re excited that you’ve decided to return to campus to complete your degree! We understand that unforeseen circumstances can arise and affect your ability to stay on track with your educational goals. Rest assured, we’re here to support you! Below, you’ll find helpful information to assist you in planning your return.

Undergraduate Returning (former Fresno State student) Application Instructions:

All undergraduate students who have not yet earned a bachelor's degree, stopped out for two or more consecutive semesters, and wish to return must submit a new application through Cal State Apply. Please view the instructions below.

Meet with a Counselor

Select your admission term:

Former Fresno State students who left in good academic standing and are seeking readmission after an absence of two consecutive semesters must reapply for admissions at Cal State Apply. If a returning student attended another college or institution after their last semester at Fresno State official transcripts from those schools must be submitted. Please refer to Deadlines and Important Dates for the appropriate admission term. 

  1. Students who wish to return and pursue a different major must meet the impaction criteria for that major if there is such criteria. If they are returning to the same major, there is a possibility of readmission without meeting the impaction criteria.  However, all readmission is at the discretion of the department and/or program. Any returning student who has 60 or more units must declare a major, even if they left Fresno State as undeclared.

  2. If it has been 5 or more years since you last attended Fresno State, submit all transcripts from all colleges attended (except Fresno State transcripts).

Undergraduate students who were academically disqualified from Fresno State and are seeking readmission to the university must meet all eligibility criteria below:

  1. Must be out a minimum of one semester before returning to Fresno State
    (For more information on the returning application dates, please see below)

  2. Complete one of the following course options through a regionally accredited institution (6 units minimum):

    1. General Education (GE) foundation (Area A and B4) requirements*
    2. If the foundation is complete, take 6 units of other remaining GE requirements
    3. If all lower division GE coursework has been completed, take at least 6 units of degree or career-applicable CSU transferable coursework. (This may include upper-division coursework taken through Open University).

      *Options b or c are only available if the student completes option a.

  3.  Coursework completed must meet a minimum 2.30 GPA (GPA will be calculated using all grades taken since leaving Fresno State)

Students who wish to return and pursue a different major must meet the impaction criteria for that major if such criteria exist. If they are returning to the same major, there is a possibility of readmission without meeting the impaction criteria. However, all readmission is at the discretion of the department and/or program. Any returning student who has 60 or more units must declare a major, even if they left Fresno State undeclared.

Spring Application Dates (for returning students only):

Spring semester: July 1 - August 31

Spring applicants must have graded coursework of 2.30 GPA by the end of summer term prior to admissions. All requirements must be completed by the end of summer prior to the spring term of admission.

The following steps must be completed by the stated deadlines found under the Deadlines and Important Dates for Returning Undergraduate Students:

1. Undergraduate Returning Application Instructions (former Fresno State student only):

2. Complete and submit the Readmission Petition, if applicable.

3. Submit official transcripts if any of the below reasons apply:

  • Has attended any colleges and/or university since your disqualification (if courses were taken through Continuing and Global Education at Fresno State a transcript is not required)
  • Has been 5 or more years since you last attended Fresno State (submit for all institutions, excluding Fresno State)

 

Admission decisions are sent to students by email during the application evaluation period.

Spring application evaluations: September - November

Step 2: 
Submit documents by the document deadline 

Step 3:
Apply for FAFSA and Scholarships (optional, students are highly encouraged to apply)

Step 4:  
Returning students DO NOT register or attend Dog Days. If you have been fully readmitted, you may register for classes starting on the enrollment appointment date that is indicated in your student portal.

All requirements must be completed by the end of spring prior to the fall term of admissions. Summer coursework will not be considered in the fall admissions evaluation
