University Advising Center

How do I clear my advising hold?

All Fresno State students are required to have academic advising at various stages in their educational journey. In your Student Center, the mandatory advising requirements are indicated by certain labels.  By clicking on the details link you can view additional information regarding the hold.

Click here for a step by step guide to view holds and their details.

Note: All communication regarding how to clear a students hold will be sent to their Fresno State email account

Incoming Freshman & Transfer students must attend Dog Days where academic advising is part of the program.  The hold will be lifted prior to your registration time at Dog Days.

All freshmen are required to have an academic advising session in spring before registering for their fall classes. Around the fourth week of the semester, a registration hold will be placed on the student center as a reminder to complete this advising at the students earliest opportunity.

Undeclared Students: You will be sent an email to sign up for a one-on-one advising session with your Academic Counselor in the University Advising Center.

Declared Major: Your College Advising Center will reach out and provide information on how to fulfill this requirement.

All transfer students are required to have an academic advising session during their first semester in order to register for the following semester.

Undergraduate students whose GPA falls below a 2.0 will be required to have academic advising to discuss the requirements needed to maintain enrollment at Fresno State.  A hold will be placed on the student center as a reminder to complete the required advising.

Freshman admitted Fall 2020 will work with SupportNet except students in the College of Social Sciences.  Please check your Fresno State email for specific requirements.

Students admitted prior to Fall 2020 will receive email communication regarding requirements to clear their academic probation hold.

ALL STUDENTS must visit an advisor from their College Advising Center before completing 75 units. After completing 60 units, you will receive a warning indicator ("MA1") on your Student Center. After completing 75 units you will see a registration block indicator ("MA2") and will not be able to register for classes until you visit your major advisor for roadmap advising.

Some majors require their students to see a faculty advisor each semester for different reasons. If you are (or were previously) in one of those majors and see the "Advising" hold, you must see an advisor from your department.

UNDECLARED students must declare a major prior to the completion of their 60th unit. After completing 45 units you will see a warning indicator ("MD1") on your student record. After completing 60 units you will see a registration block indicator ("MD2") and you will not be able to register for classes until you declare a major. You will receive email communication from your assigned undeclared advisor for assistance.

Students who have earned over 130 units may have this hold.  Your College Advising Center will reach out and provide information on how to fulfill this requirement.
