How do I join ASI?
Every currently enrolled Fresno State student who pays the student body fee is automatically a member of Associated Students, Inc. (ASI). As a member, you have the right to vote in ASI elections, run for an elected position, and serve on campus-wide committees. (View ASI org chart).
Each academic year, many students express interest in joining the ASI team. To help you prepare, we’ve provided key information you should review before filing to run for office.
Please read the materials carefully — and best of luck with your potential campaign!
All required election documents must be submitted in person to the ASI Office in RSU 303/304 by the strict deadline of Thursday, March 27th, 2026 at 4:00 p.m. Late submissions will not be accepted under any circumstances.
Only official ASI-issued packets will be accepted — forms must be completed using the original copy provided at pick-up.

Below you will find information pertaining to the filing and running as a candidate for ASI student body elections. Please read carefully to learn more about the positions, opportunities, and documents you will need to submit for ASI elections.
The ASI election process is outlined by ASI’s Election Code. ASI elections provide the Fresno State student body an opportunity to choose 22 student representatives who will serve a (1) year term of office (June 1- May 31) and will represent students providing them with a voice and vehicle to create actionable and meaningful change through the democratic process on the Fresno State campus. Below you will find current elected positions within ASI:

Elections occur annually and online each spring semester. Election results determine the ASI Senate, the offices of President, Vice President of Finance and Vice President of External Affairs. In order to serve in one of these elected positions you must meet eligibility requirements in accordance with California State University, Fresno, and the CSU Chancellor’s Office, submit required documents, as well as follow election protocols and procedures, and ultimately win your race.
Students are eligible to run for office if they meet the CSU system-wide requirements.
Grades – All candidates must be enrolled and in good standing with the university. Candidates must have received at least a 2.0 term grade point average (GPA) in fall 2025. Graduate students must have a cumulative 3.0 GPA for the fall 2025 term in all graduate work. Candidates on academic probation will be unable to petition.
Unit Load – Undergraduate candidates must maintain 6 units per semester while running for office. Graduate and credential students must maintain 3 units per semester while running for office. Undergraduate students are allowed to earn a maximum of 150 semester units or 125 percent of the units required for a specific baccalaureate degree objective, whichever is greater. Graduate and credential students are allowed to earn a maximum of 50 semester units or 167 percent of the units required for a graduate or credential objective, whichever is greater.
Residency – Undergraduate candidates for office must have been enrolled on the campus and have completed at least one semester prior to the election, earning a total of 6 semester units during that year. Graduate and credential student candidates for office must earn 6 units per semester of continuous attendance as a new graduate or credential student to be eligible. Graduate and credential students who received a bachelor’s degree or credential within the past three years from the same campus must have earned a total of 12 semester units during their last year as an undergraduate to be eligible.
5 Steps to running for office
- Submit: Election packets must be picked up in person from the ASI Office located in RSU 303/304. Only official ASI-issued copies will be accepted for submission. Completed packets must be submitted in person to the ASI Office no later than Thursday, March 27th by 4:00 p.m. Late submissions will not be accepted under any circumstances.
- Learn & Attend: To help you understand the election process, campaigning rules, and your responsibilities as a candidate, please review the Election Packet provided by ASI. You are also encouraged to read the full ASI Election Code, which outlines all regulations governing the election. As a requirement to run, you must attend at least one Election Workshop prior to the All-Candidates Meeting. Approximately four or more Election workshops will be held throughout March 2026, with times set to be announced in early January.
- Attend: Before you can begin campaigning, you must attend the All-Candidates Meeting — the final mandatory orientation confirming your eligibility to run in the 2025 ASI Elections. This meeting will take place (tentatively) on Monday, April 6th, from 5:30–6:30 p.m. in RSU Room 206. Attendance is required to receive permission to beging campaigning.
- Campaign: Candidates can begin campaigning immediately following the All Candidates meeting on Monday, April 6th. Campaigning will be from Monday April 6th, 2026 (immediately after the end of the All-Candidates Meeting) to Thursday, April 23rd, 2026 at noon. All candidates are expected to strictly follow the Elections Code.
- Vote!: Elections begin Tuesday, April 21st, 2026, at 9 a.m. and end Thursday, April 23rd, 2026, at noon.
(This timeline is subject to change, as the Student Senate approves the official election timeline in November.)
Executive Positions
There are four (4) executive positions that make up the ASI executive team: the President, Executive Vice President, Vice President of Finance, and Vice President of External Affairs. Each is responsible for and performs various tasks that are necessary for ASI operations and activities. Below you will find brief descriptions of each position and their corresponding duties, responsibilities and expectations.
President – The President of Associated Students, Inc., has the duty and responsibility of serving as chief executive officer of the organization and overseeing the corporations’ activities and affairs. The president acts as the primary representative of the organization within the campus community and at the state, local, and sometimes national level on all matters related to ASI. The president is also responsible for working in collaboration with the ASI director of operations and staff to forward the mission of ASI, ensure ASI follows ASI Bylaws, Policies, university rules and regulations, provide services to students, and represents the student voice within the campus community and beyond.
Executive Vice President – The Executive Vice President serves as the chair for the Associated Students, Inc. (ASI) Student Senate and is responsible for administering general operations and procedures pertaining to the ASI Senate and Committees. The EVP is selected from one of eleven (11) at-large senators who may vote only when necessary to break a tie-vote. In the event the ASI President is unable to perform their duties, the executive vice president will act as interim president and have all powers of and subject to all restrictions of the office of ASI president.
Vice President of Finance – The Vice President of Finance serves as ASI’s chief financial officer and prepares the organization’s annual budget, facilitates the distribution of club grants, assists in managing club and campus organization financial accounts, while advising the ASI president, student senate, and staff of the organization’s financial affairs. The vice president of finance is the primary signatory on all financial documents, and serves as the chair of the ASI Finance Committee and is a voting member of the ASI executive committee. The vice president of finance is also responsible for ensuring all ASI fiscal Bylaws, Policies, university guidelines are followed.
President of External Affairs - The Vice President of External Affairs shall be charged with the responsibility of acting as the liaison on all matters externally affecting ASI. This may include, but is not limited to, working with alumni, community members, governments, and acting as the primary California State Student Association, (CSSA) representative for California State University, Fresno. The Vice President of External Affairs shall chair the ASI External Affairs Committee, and will have normal voting privileges congruent with other ASI committee chairs. The Vice President of External Affairs shall provide updates to the Student Senate on CSSA events at the senate meeting directly following the date of the plenary. They will be the primary party responsible for attending the CSSA meetings and represent ASI in all capacities related to CSSA or the CSU system at-large, in partnership with the ASI president, among other duties as assigned by the ASI Executive Committee, or ASI Senate.
College Senators
There are eight (8) colleges within the campus community, and is represented by a senator elected from students within each respective college.
Colleges represented in the ASI Senate include: the colleges of Arts & Humanities, Health & Human Services, Science & Mathematics and Social Sciences, as well as the Jordan College of Agricultural Sciences & Technology, Craig School of Business, Lyles College of Engineering and the Kremen School of Education & Human Development.
Senate At-Large Positions
There are eleven (11) senators until an executive vice president is selected from among the at-large senators at which point the number of senators is reduced to eighteen (10).
At-Large positions, more commonly referenced by the “area of responsibility” chosen by the senators after being elected (Athletic and Recreational Affairs; Diversity, Equity and Inclusion; Greek Affairs; Health and Wellness; Operations and Resident Affairs; Student Affairs and Engagement; Sustainability; Veteran and Transfer Affairs; Parking and Transportation; Research and Innovation). Senators make up the voting board for the organization and are appointed by the executive vice president during the first meeting of the ASI senate.

ASI Election Packet
To run for any ASI office, you must pick up an official ASI Election Packet in person from the ASI Office located in the Resnick Student Union (RSU), Room 303/304. Only the physical packets provided by ASI will be accepted—no digital or unofficial copies will be considered valid.
Packets will be available beginning Tuesday, January 21st, 2026, and completed packets must be submitted in person only to the ASI Office no later than Friday, March 27th, 2026, by 4:00 p.m. Late submissions will not be accepted under any circumstances and will result in disqualification from the 2026-2027 ASI Election.
The packet contains all required materials, including timelines, signature sheets, and a personal statement form that will appear on the ballot. Candidates running for executive positions must obtain 50 valid signatures from any enrolled, fee paying Fresno State student. Candidates running for college senator positions must obtain 25 valid signatures from students in their respective college. Candidates running for senator-at-large positions must obtain 25 valid signatures from any enrolled, fee paying Fresno State student. You are encouraged to collect extra signatures in case any are deemed invalid due to illegibility or incorrect ID numbers.

Voter information
Each student will receive an email to their Fresno State student account on April 20, 2026 (projected) with instructions for voting in the 2026 ASI Student Body Election. This email will include a unique username and password to access their secure electronic ballot.
In addition to online voting, physical voting booths will be available on campus at the Resnick Student Union (RSU) and the Library. Students are encouraged to stop by ASI’s voting booths during the election period or cast their vote online using the link provided in the email.
Each student will be notified and receive an email to their student email account on April 20th, 2026 with a link, username and password to cast an electronic vote for the 2026 ASI Student Body Election. Use this link to go to the voter portal. A physical voting location will be available in the Library during ASI’s operating hours. Voting will still require the student to log into their email to access the link provided to them.
