'Change the Subject' Documentary Screening
Wednesday, Sept. 20 • Noon to 1:30 p.m. • Library 2206
The true story of Hispanic students’ fight to change the “illegal alien” Library of Congress subject heading to “undocumented immigrant.”

Friday, Sept. 29 • 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. • Satellite Student Union
Free celebration with DJ, live performers, food, a keynote speaker and a resource fair. Open to the campus community – RSVP online to attend.

Celebrate Hispanic cultures through free food, music, vendors and activities for students.

Social networking event for students to meet peers by playing games related to the Latino/a community.

Eighth Annual Feria de Educación

Event to assist primarily Spanish-speaking families and their students in accessing resources and information to prepare for college success. Special guests include Leo Gonzalez, a comedy writer and producer, and Beatriz Adriana, an actress and singer, plus a performance from Los Danzantes de Aztlán.

Hispanic-Latino/x Figure Highlights
Learn about trailblazers within the Hispanic community at the La Casita de Helen Ramirez in the Cross Cultural and Gender Center (Thomas Building, Room 111). Open 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Mondays through Fridays.

About National Hispanic Heritage Month


Each year, the United States observes National Hispanic Heritage Month by celebrating the histories, cultures and contributions of American citizens whose ancestors came from Spain, Mexico, the Caribbean and Central and South America. History

The observation started in 1968 as Hispanic Heritage Week under President Lyndon Johnson and was expanded by President Ronald Reagan in 1988 to cover the current 30-day period.

Timing

September 15 is Independence Day for Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras and Nicaragua. Mexico and Chile celebrate their independence on September 16 and September 18, respectively.
