National Pan-Hellenic Council

The stated purpose and mission of the NPHC nationally upon its founding in 1930 was "Unanimity of thought and action as far as possible in the conduct of Greek letter collegiate fraternities and sororities, and to consider problems of mutual interest to its member organizations." Early in 1937, the organization was incorporated under the laws of the State of Illinois and became known as "The National Pan-Hellenic Council, Incorporated."

NPHC at Fresno State promotes interaction through forums, meetings and other mediums for the exchange of information, and engages in cooperative programming and initiatives important to the African-American community through various activities and functions. While these organizations are historically African-American, they are open to men and women of all races.

Current NPHC members are involved in activities such as Fresno State Athletics, NAACP, Black Students United, and a host of professional and honorary organizations. Finding a balance between academics and social activities is important in your college life, and involvement in both areas will provide you with a well-rounded college experience.

Membership in an NPHC organization is selective and is a life-long commitment that continues long after your collegiate career. NPHC has graduate/alumni chapters nationwide that members are expected to affiliate with upon graduating. These graduate chapters can be especially beneficial when relocating or changing careers.
