Advising
Regular academic advising is key to the successful and timely completion of your degree. Academic advisors are available to explain major, General Education (G.E.), and degree requirements; help you plan your class schedule; help you stay on track for your degree; write letters of reference, and more. You should schedule an appointment to meet with your advisor at least once a semester.
There are two types of advisors that all students have at Fresno State.
Major Advisor - Students with a declared major should contact your major department. Each department
has its own method for assigning faculty advisors who will assist students in selecting
courses within their major. Undeclared majors will be advised by academic counselors
in the Office of Advising Services.
General Education Advisor - Academic counselors are located in the Office of Advising Services and assist all
undergraduate students in selecting GE courses and fulfilling graduation requirements.
The Advising Services is located in Joyal Administration Room 224, 559.278.1787.
EOP, CAMP, UMS, International students and student athletes will be advised by your
respective assigned counselors as well as by faculty advisors in your major department.
Although academic advising is available for you, you are still responsible for knowing and meeting the various major and other degree requirements as stated in your chosen catalog year.
